Loneliness!

Where does the happiness go when loneliness appears?
Into a locked cabinet deep down inside of you.

Who keeps the key which would set it free again?
That remains to be seen, it certainly isn’t you!

How can the loneliness be quashed for you to live again?
It takes someone very special to defeat it!

When will you feel that you are not on your own?
It seems like an eternity as you are imprisoned in this feeling!

Why does it feel that you have no one to turn to?
Even when surrounded by people you feel totally isolated.

What will you do to make yourself feel something …. Anything?
You feel that nothing you do will take away this emptiness!

Does anyone else feel lonely, even though they’re not alone?
It seems a total contradiction, yet makes so much sense!

Can you make it through this barren desolate minefield?
There are so many barriers and walls to break through first.

Will you be able to find that elusive key holder to set you loose?
Little chunks of light and rays of hope keep you believing you will.

You can, you may, you will, you must!

Never give up, and never stop believing!

You’re capable of achieving the impossible!

You can because you are amazing!

My Oasis

A veritable multitude of different shades of green,

Soothing and cooling my tired eyes and limbs.

Rich scents of earth, grass and air,

Assailing my senses until I am reeling.

Butterflies dancing together, flying upwards towards the sky.

Frogs spawning and splashing in the small pond,

As they do every year.

Finches nervously approaching as soon as I retire indoors.

The cheeky robins watching my every move without flinching.

Sparrows attack the feeder the minute it is filled.

Blue tits and coal tits flit in and out of the garden,

Taking just what they need.

Blackbird’s song serenading me, calming my jangled nerves.

The occasional sighting of the jay lifts my spirits immediately.

Soft rustling of the leaves overhead hypnotises my mind.

Wind whistling gently through the trees seems musical and mystical.

Feeling the cool grass between my toes is unbelievable!

Silent, but full of nature’s sounds abounding.

My oasis, my heaven, my eden, my idyll.

No other place can take it from my heart.

Getting older!

I’m old and fat and past my prime!

Looking in the mirror I don’t recognise myself.
When did the young woman disappear?
Where did the gross apparition appear from?
I don’t feel any different do I? …… Yes!

I admit I don’t move as quickly as I once did.
I can’t fit into that dress that once hung from my frame.
I do have to watch what I eat.
Yes, I get out of breath when I exert myself ….
Doesn’t everyone? ….. No? …… Oh well!

Life is so unfair in that by the time you gain experience
You’re not fit enough to enjoy what you’ve learned!
The cruelty of life’s progress I just don’t get!

I hear myself saying things my mother said.
Things I swore I’d never say to my children!
Could I change this at all? Maybe!

My children roll their eyes at me when I say something stupid.
As I used to do when my parents did the same!
Already I see my grandchildren doing it to their parents.
Payback? Oh yes!

My joints stiffen and creak as I get up and sit down.
I find now I’m looking at the ads in magazines for those “useful” gadgets.
Getting quite excited at them! ……. Saddo!
Finding now that I qualify for the Saga holidays and “special” insurance deals!
Scary or what?!

To be truthful I am comfortable with my advancing years.
I don’t dread each birthday as it approaches.
Instead I celebrate each passing year and what I’ve achieved.
I look forward to what I’ve yet to achieve.
I’m thankful for what I’ve got, and aim that bit further.

So yes, I’m old, I’m fat and I’m past my prime.
But, what a time I’ve had getting there!
